LabSpec
LabSpec is an integrated suite of LabView routines developed by Bruce Idleman that can control automated operation of a noble-gas mass spectrometer and associated extraction lines. The software is highly flexible and is currently used by a number of noble-gas laboratories. If you are interested in the software, please contact Bruce.
Data Analysis
Over the years like most labs we have developed various software tools to aid in the interpretation and modeling of noble-gas data. Most likely to be of interest is Arvert, a program that inverts K-feldspar age spectra for thermal histories. You might also be interested in Size ExtractorX, a visual tool for assessing a K-feldspar's domain structure. SimpleLovera and CrankHe are forward models for predicting, respectively, K-feldspar age spectra and apatite He ages.
Arvert and other helper applications are available for download from this page. Sample input files and source code are also available. The files are .zip archives. The applications all run on Mac OS, but except for Size Extractor, their source code should compile and run on other systems.
- Arvert 4.0.1 - inversion of K-spar age spectra (and He ages)
-
Arvert can now include a U-Th/He age as an additional constraint. This version of Arvert supersedes all others.

- Arvert 4.0.1 source code (48 KB)
- Arvert manual: US letter (2.6 MB) A4 (2.6 MB)
- Arvert sample input and output (308 KB)
- SimpleLovera 1.11 - forward modeling of K-feldspar age spectra
-
A basic C translation of Oscar Lovera's routine. Distribution includes sample input files.
- Simple Lovera 1.11 (92 KB)
- Size ExtractorX 1.07 - modeling of K-feldspar domain structure
-
Size Extractor is an interactive application for visualizing and modeling a K-feldspar's domain structure. Written in RealBasic.
- Size ExtractorX 1.07 (40 KB)
- CrankHe - forward modeling of apatite U/He ages, and closure profiles
-
CrankHe is a simple way to predict apatite He ages given a thermal history. It incorporates alpha-ejection into the helium gain/loss function and can also be used to view closure profiles.
